SRINAGAR, July 14 (SABAH): Kashmir’s joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has slammed mainstream politicians for “staging a drama” on martyrs’ day on July 13 every year.
In a statement, the JRL said National Conference, PDP and Congress leaders visit martyrs’ graveyard under police cover and shower flowers and lay wreaths on graves of martyrs of July 13, 1931 for their political interests.
“All these people stage a political drama over blood of martyrs every year. The fact remains that these very people damaged the mission of 1931 martyrs in 1938 and rejected it,” they said.
The JRL said forming National Conference after Muslim Conference was the first step towards “ditching the mission of these great martyrs.”
“Since that day, these politicians (mainstream) have been giving a different colour to the mission of July 13 martyrs. They actually have no moral right to visit the graves of martyrs,” the statement said. “By visiting martyrs’ graveyard, these pro-India people are actually disrespecting the souls of great martyrs.”
People of Kashmir are the real custodians of martyrs of 1931, the JRL said. “Even after 86 years, Kashmiris are spilling their hot blood for the cause whose foundation was laid by these great martyrs.”
The statement said that caging resistance leadership, imposing strict curbs would actually increase the anger among people, including youth and won’t deter the resolve of resistance leadership who will continue to represent the true aspirations of people.
