KARACHI, Aug 12 (SABAH): Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, following his first official visit to Karachi, announced a Rs25 billion development package for the metropolis and a Rs5bn package for Hyderabad during the current fiscal year. “We will allocate Rs25bn for Karachi this year and Rs5bn for Hyderabad.” Prime minister said Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is his prime minister.
“Funds for provinces in 2013 were Rs1,200bn and this year we have allocated Rs1,900bn,” said the premier while talking to media persons along with Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair.
Abbasi also expressed satisfaction over progress of current development projects in the metropolis and said the governor is overseeing activities in the city.
He further said that he met the business community in Karachi and the businessmen and traders expressed satisfaction over the city’s situation.
Referring to the support lent to PML-N by MQM-P, Abbasi said that the MQM-P supported the ruling party without placing any conditions on their support. He said that Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) is a political party and the issues faced by the organisation would be addressed.
Commenting on former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s ‘homecoming’ rally, the premier said that it is Nawaz’s right to express his opinions and he has not said anything wrong in his speeches to PML-N supporters. He said petitions are field daily in court of the country and he did not think that Nawaz Sharif has said anything wrong in speeches.
PM Abbasi said that policies and commitments of former premier Nawaz Sharif would be fulfilled. He said that the responsibility of completing development projects lies with the provincial governments under 18th Amendment. He reiterated that every possible step would be taken to curb trade losses and to boost exports.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi says the country cannot progress without strong economy and there is lot of room for boosting economy to lead the country on the road of progress and prosperity.
He was talking to a representative delegation of Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Pakistan Business Council in Karachi on Saturday.
The prime minister called for efforts to ensure the promotion of economic activities in Karachi.
He said the government will continue to pursue the policies of former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. Members of new cabinet are working hard to achieve the goals and objectives of PML-N.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that as a result of concerted efforts of PML-N government and sacrifices of security forces, law and order has been restored in Karachi.
According to official media, the Governor State Bank of Pakistan Tariq Bajwa and Chairman FBR Tariq Mehmood Pasha also called on the Prime Minister and briefed him about the performance of their respective institutions.
During the meeting, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair were also present on the occasion.
Chairing a meeting on law and order in Karachi, the Prime Minister said the federal government is concerned over the recent surge in street crimes in Karachi.
The meeting was briefed on overall security situation in the province in general and Karachi in particular.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi stressed the need for activating all intelligence resources to arrest that alarming trend.
The meeting reaffirmed that peace and tranquility in Karachi would be maintained at all costs.
Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Federal Minister for Interior Ahsan Iqbal, Corps Commander Karachi, Chief Secretary Sindh, DG Rangers Sindh, IG Sindh and other senior government officials were present during the meeting.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also called on Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in Karachi this afternoon.
They discussed the prevailing political situation in the province and relations between the Federal and provincial governments.
The Prime Minister reiterated his resolve that the federal government will continue to play its role in completion of the ongoing development projects in Sindh.
Earlier, talking to Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair in Karachi, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said the federal government will extend all out support for development in Sindh province.
The Governor briefed the Prime Minister on the initiatives taken for the development and confidence of business community.
The Prime Minister also paid a visit to the mausoleum of Quaid-a-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
He laid floral wreath at the mausoleum and offered Fateha to pay homage and respect to father of the nation. He also recorded his impressions in the visitor’s book.
A delegation of MQM Pakistan led by Farooq Sattar also called on Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in Karachi on Saturday.
The current situation in Karachi was discussed in the meeting.
It was agreed in the meeting that all the political parties should combine their efforts to further improve security and business atmosphere in Karachi.
The Prime Minister said all the political parties should join hands to ensure peace and security in the city.
