ISLAMABAD, Sept 12 (SABAH): Ameer, Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, has said it was unfortunate that the ruling junta had never accepted the court verdicts against it.
He was talking to the media outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday. Sirajul Haq said the court decision in the Panama leaks had awakened the national conscience against corruption. In fact, he said, the Panama leaks had been the divine rod which was yet to strike many heads after Nawaz Sharif.
He said that the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif had not solved the problem and there was need to audit the account of other 436 persons named in the Panama leaks.
Sirajul Haq said the nation had got a golden chance to eradicate corruption and if it missed the chance, accountability of the plunderers would never be possible.
He said in fact it was the responsibility of the political parties to help weed out corruption by refusing to issue party tickets to the people notorious for corruption. However, he said, if the party leadership itself was corrupt, such a move could not be expected. Nevertheless, he said, the common political workers were averse to corruption.
He said that the JI would continue its fight against corruption in the courts, on roads and streets and also in the elected houses.
He said he had called a meeting of the JI senior leadership at Mansoora on Sept. 14 where the party would reaffirm its pledge to continue its drive against corruption with new a vigour and zeal.
Meanwhile Senator Sirajul Haq, has convened a meeting of the JI senior leadership at Mansoora on September 14, to decide the line of action for carrying forward the party’s drive against corruption.
At the meeting, a panel of legal experts and senior lawyers would be constituted to ensure the accountability of the other 436 persons named in the Panama leaks besides those who had plundered billions of public money and those who were the beneficiaries of the notorious NRO.
Meanwhile Senator Sirajul Haq, and JI Secretary General, Liaqat Baloch, have expressed deep grief over the road accident at Motorway near Chakri, killing fourteen persons.
In a message here, they offered condolences with the bereaved families and prayed for the departed souls.
