RAWALPINDI/KARACHI, Sep 12 (SABAH): 14 persons including four children were killed and five others injured in a road accident on Islamabad-Lahore Motorway at Chakri area of Rawalpindi. The accident occurred when a passenger van coming from Jhang to Islamabad struck a trailer and caught fire.
According to Motorway Police, the driver fell asleep during driving. The dead bodies have been shifted to PIMS Islamabad while two seriously injured women Salma and Shaista are under treatment at CMH Rawalpindi. One year old child Abiha is also included in the injured persons. 10 years old child Muhammad Ahsan is included in the killed persons.
Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has expressed condolences with the families of the killed persons in the accident. Shahbaz Sharif has also summoned the report of the incident from the concerned authorities.
Meanwhile in Karachi, seven people including women and children were killed and three others were injured when a truck crushed a Suzuki van on Malir Link Road linking National Highway with Super Highway. The deadly clash occurred near Sumandri Baba Mazar along the Malir Link Road.
Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre senior official Dr Seemin Jamali said six of the deceased were brought dead to the hospital while one of the injured succumbed to injuries in the hospital. Two children and two women were among those who died.
Some of deceased are identified as 30-year-old Abdul Malik, five-year-old Moeez, and 12-year-old Noman. The three other deceased including a woman remains unidentified as yet while one of injured is being identified as Sajida.
The closure of the Malir Link Road after the accident resulted in long queue of vehicles.
