SRINAGAR, Oct 10 (SABAH): Kashmir’s Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has thanked the people for observing a complete shutdown against the ‘unabated’ braid chopping incidents across Kashmir.
In a statement, the leaders said: “Monday’s shutdown is a clear message to miscreants that they can’t dampen our spirits or break our resolve.”
Expressing concern over suspects being beaten without verification, the statement said: “People should evolve a system to keep a close vigil on miscreants and while dealing with such appalling situations, we should never ignore life and honour of those suspected. Without any substantial proof and evidence, any action against a suspected person is immoral and inhuman. It will create chaos in society and will benefit only our enemies.”
“No oppressive measures and devilish acts can break our resolve. History stands witness to that fact that we inherit the bravery from our ancestors and one of brave hearts and great warrior Muhammad Bin Qassim, while responding to a call of a suppressed sister, came to her rescue. Braid chopping is a serious and sensitive issue and we will never tolerate this humiliation. Those responsible for these inhuman and silly moves shall have to stand answerable for their devilish acts. The honour and dignity of our mothers, sisters and daughters is at stake and it is unbearable for us. We will never tolerate the sinister designs against women folk as for the past 70 years we have presented unparalleled sacrifices,” the statement said, adding that “deceitful policies couldn’t break our resolve as we are determined to follow our mission with zeal and dedication.”
Urging people to focus on right to self-determination movement, the leaders urged them to resist and foil all the ‘evil plans and designs’ of the rulers.
Reiterating their appeal for TRC chalo on October 14, against mysterious braid chopping, ‘attempts and to alter’ state subject law, arresting resistance leadership, traders, scholars, lawyers, students by the National Investigating Agency (NIA), the leaders said: “It should serve a message to world community that we will never succumb to pressure or tolerate the deceitful policies pursued by the authorities in New Delhi. We will continue our struggle for right to self-determination.”
