SRINAGAR, Oct 10 (SABAH): Hurriyat Conference (M) has strongly denounced the continuous house detention of its Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, terming it as ‘revengeful’ act.
“Mirwaiz Sahab is every now and then placed under house detention without any reason. Such arbitrary acts are hegemonic and simply revengeful,” the Hurriyat spokesman, in a statement, said.
He said, “While entire Kashmir is up in arms against the shameful assault on the dignity of its womenfolk by cutting their braids mysteriously and protesting it vehemently, the ruling regime instead of resolving this issue keeps resorting to its standard dictatorial moves of curbing resistance leadership and detaining them and imposing curfews and restrictions.”
“The government and its forces especially police have failed to crack the rising cases of braid chopping in Kashmir and to hide its failures. It keeps resorting to cracking its whip on braid chopping protests, jailing the resistance leadership and imposing curfews and restrictions to harass people. The government is deliberately adopting a dilly-dallying approach in finding those behind these shameful incidents and so far it has completely failed in protecting the honour and dignity of Kashmir’s womenfolk,” he said.
The spokesman flayed the government for “resorting to frequent imposition of curfews in Downtown and caging a huge population as a means of oppression under a well-planned policy to crush the resolve of people there and choke the economy of downtown as it is the oldest business hub of Kashmir”.
