Says PTI will put institutions on right track after gaining power
GHALANAI, Oct 17 (SABAH): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan said on Tuesday that his party will put the country’s institutions on the right track after winning the next general elections. He said that when a person like Asif Ali Zardari files suit of corruption against you whether it is not the sign of the Day of Judgment. He said that Shahbaz Sharif, Ali Dar and Najam Sethi have filed suits of Rs 10 billion each against him, adding that Asif Zardari and Faryal Talpur have filed Rs one billion suits against him. Imran Khan said that everyone is equal before the law, adding that if the head of the country is apprehended he did not say why I was removed but he accepts that this has been decided by the courts of the country.
While addressing a ceremony at Malakand University, Imran Khan said that in Pakistan an accused person appears before accountability court with the protocol of 40 vehicles but in Western countries the prime minister of the country comes in his office on cycle. He said that the western countries moved forward due to democracy and Muslim countries are lagging behind as monarchy is continued in the Muslim countries. He said Pakistan never witnessed the real democracy, adding that for making Pakistan sovereign we have to make NAB and FBR independent.
The PTI chief said “we will transform NAB (National Accountability Bureau) and FBR (Federal Board of Revenue) first.” He added that the supremacy of law strengthens institutions.
Responding to the legal cases against him, he said “the bigger a leader is the more enemies he is likely to have,” remarked Imran. Election Commission of Pakistan and the anti-terrorism court have issued arrest warrants against me. Moreover, political leaders such as Shahbaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar’s son, Najam Sethi, Asif Ali Zardari, Faryal Talpur have filed cases worth billions of rupees against me, he claimed.
Stressing the need for merit in society, Imran said: “a good governance can be gauged by its system of merit.” When governance and merit collapse so does a nation, he claimed. “A nation is not destroyed by an atomic bomb but when its institutions fail.”
While presenting the example of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police, Imran said that people fear police in Sindh and Punjab, but the crime rate has dropped by 70 percent. “AD Khawaja said that Sindh needs police similar to that of KP,” said the PTI chief. Imran said that the police in KP became better when the IG was appointed on the basis of merit.
Imran Khan asked why those who were elected for six times in Punjab and Sindh could not improve police department in their provinces.
Imran Khan said one year was passed in sit-ins while the other one went in the probe of Panama Leaks case.
After thoroughly analyzing two years, I can say that the country’s situation can be improved soon, he added.
He continued that PTI will improve the system of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) after coming into power as the country can only progress by believing in supremacy of the law. Imran Khan said that FBR collects taxes of Rs 3500 billion but according to the World Bank report there is Rs 3200 billion theft and incompetence in FBR. He said former chairman NAB admiral (retd) Fasihuddin Bukhari had said that the corruption of Rs 12 billion is committed daily in Pakistan.
Discussing the educational sector, Imran Khan said three different academic systems that include English medium, Madrassas and government schools are being run in the country and none of them follow merit. He said in English Medium schools 0.8 million students, in religious seminaries 2.3 million students and 33 million students are studying in Urdu medium schools. Imran Khan said we did not provide opportunity to anyone else except the elite.
