ISLAMABAD, Nov 10 (SABAH): Islamabad Chamber of Small Traders on Friday paid glowing tributes to the national business leader Iftikhar Ali Malik who saved the United Business Group (UBG) of the FPCCI from collapse.
The situation turned a dramatic turn when six business leaders of the UBG from various business chambers started lobbying for the post of president FPCCI in the upcoming elections.
The development resulted in fears of the division within the group prompting the Chairman of the UBG Iftikhar Ali Malik to employ best of his negotiation skills, said Patron Islamabad Chamber of Small Traders Shahid Rasheed Butt.
He said that the sincere efforts of Mr Malik resulted in the withdrawal of three candidates but the rest of three including Ghazanfar Bilour from Peshawar, Haji Naseemur Rehman from Mardan and Atif Ikram Sheikh, the nominee of Haripur Chamber were not ready to blackout.
Meanwhile, for the very first time in the last four years, the Businessmen Panel of the FPCCI took advantage of the situation and announced their candidate for the slot of the president of the FPCCI.
This increased pressure on the UBG leadership resulting in an important meeting at the home of Iftikhar Ali Malik in which all the aspirants and central leadership agreed to announce the name of a candidate after balloting.
Mr. Malik has summoned another important meeting of the Core Committee of the UBG at his residence on November 21 in which all the fifty-four members of the committee will vote for the presidential candidate. The winner would be declared the presidential candidate of the UBG.
