SRINAGAR, Nov 28 (SABAH): The All Parties Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani has expressed deep concern over “miserable condition” of Kashmiri detainees lodged in Tihar jail and urged the international human rights organisations to take serious note of it.
In a statement, a Hurriyat (G) spokesperson said: “The woeful tale of miseries and torture of the Kashmiri prisoners in Tihar jail is a serious concern for us as authorities in Tihar harass and thrash detainees on one pretext or the other.” The Hurriyat said that Kashmiri detainees in Tihar jail are being harassed by authorities.
“In a recent incident, Shahid Yousuf son of Syed Salahudin was severely beaten injuring his head and arm,” the spokesperson said. “It is a very serious issue. The jail inmates face life threat from criminals as they have been lodged in barracks specified for criminals. We warn authorities that if any untoward thing happens to them, the local rulers shall have to face consequences.”
The Hurriyat urged the International Red Cross and the Amnesty International to “take note of pathetic condition of political detainees and impress upon India to shun its callous attitude towards detainees besides use influence for immediate release of all detainees.”
Meanwhile, Hurriyat (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani has said that “state-sponsored terrorism is most dangerous.”
“Mere rhetoric about self-made definition of terrorism can’t make an end to this menace,” he said in a statement.
Reacting to the statement of Prime Minister NarendraModi wherein he has said that terrorism must be fought unitedly, Geelani said, “We need to realise all aspects about terrorism and those promoting it.”
Geelani said that all forms of terrorism are dangerous. “However terrorism promoted, abetted and sponsored by state is very disastrous as all the basic institutions viz. administration, armed militia and state resources are utilised to crush genuine aspirations of people.”
