PESHAWAR, Mar 19 (SABAH): Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Engineer Iqbal Zafar Jaghra hosted a celebratory luncheon for the Pakistan Super League second edition champions Peshawar Zalmi at Governor House on Sunday.
Congratulating the team, Iqbal Zafar Jaghra said Peshawar Zalmi did not just make Peshawar proud, they made the entire country proud as well. The governor expressed hope that all of PSL would be held in Pakistan next year.
Jhagra said that the victory of Peshawar Zalmi in PSL was not their’s but of the whole country. He added that successful holding of PSL final in Lahore was a proof Pakistan is a peaceful country. He added that peace was restored in FATA due to the sacrifices of Pakistan Army.
The governor said that sit-in politics had hindered the progress of the country. He announced that FATA team would participate in next year’s PSL.
Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi, speaking at the occasion, thanked the nation for supporting the team and termed the overseas players who came to Lahore to play the final ‘heroes’.
“The foreign players who played the PSL final in Lahore, they are our heroes,” Afridi said, adding that it was quite a bit of a challenge to bring Darren Sammy to Pakistan.
The reception was attended among others by Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi, Coach Muhammad Akram, and other players, besides Advisor to PM Amir Muqam and Commandant FC Liaqat Ali.
Governor Iqbal Jaghra presented the PSL champions with a trophy. The team and the staff were also given traditional Chitrali topi (hats).
Peshawar Zalmi defeated Quetta Gladiators by 58 runs in a historical final at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on March 5 to clinch the PSL second edition trophy.
