SRINAGAR, Mar 20 (SABAH): Reiterating his boycott call for upcoming parliamentary elections in Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani has hit out at mainstream political parties including Peoples Democratic Party, National Conference, Congress, People’s Conference and Awami Ithaad Party, saying “they don’t differ much as they are following the same agenda.”
Referring to what he termed as “deceit and drama” being played by National Conference, Geelani said “they are singing the same tune today that PDP sang while in opposition.”
“Their rhetoric about autonomy, self-rule and parroting mantra for freedom are just political gimmicks; their main aim is to grab power corridors. National Conference in 1975, while backtracking (sic) people enjoyed power corridors and now PDP is doing the same to remain in power. All these impostors do well understand that people are sincere and have deep a sentiment for freedom and it’s for this reason they exploit people’s aspirations. People know well that they are deceiving them and power is their sole motive,” Geelani said in a statement.
“National Conference is playing a duel and devilish card to garner sympathy wave by portraying its sympathy sentiment for freedom camp, portraying itself as well-wisher of Hurriyat and many a time (even) shower their love for our brave hearts,” he said.
Commenting over their “political gimmick” Geelani said “nowadays they are giving hype and creating fear psychosis about sinister designs of RSS and BJP but forget that it (NC) for the lust of power in the past allied with the same BJP.”
Strongly criticizing PDP, Geelani said in the past “they were misleading people during election campaigns that they enjoy backing and support of pro-freedom camp but were exposed after they forged alliances with BJP.”
Geelani said: “PDP is responsible for killings and maiming of our hundreds of youth and we won’t forget their devilish role during people’s uprising in 2016. They killed more than 100 persons, maimed thousands and ransacked properties worth billions.”
“Similarly Congress, Awami Ithaad Party, People’s Conference and all other pro-India parties are no more interested in people’s welfare but run after power and perks. They are responsible for agonies people are facing as their actions are aimed at justifying illogical control of India over our state,” he said.
Urging people to go for election boycott, Geelani said “though these parties are canvassing for providing good governance and basic amenities, but India portrays these elections as a consent, acceptance and verdict of people in Indian hegemony.”
